Vampire Infertility

Yesterday I went with two girlfriends to see Eclipse, the third move in the Twilight Saga (don't judge :) ). When I read the books a year and a half ago, I blazed through them--couldn't put them down. I actually brought Eclipse with me to Obama's Inauguration (we had to get there really early!).

But watching the movie now, much further into my TTC journey than I was when I read the book, I've found a kindred spirit, in Rosalie Hales.

Rosalie has always come off as icy toward Bella. In this movie, when the two talk one on one, Rosalie admits her jealousy. She bitterly explains that while she loves her husband (mate? boyfriend? partner?), Emmett, the two will next have a future, never have a child, never sit gray on the porch with grandchildren. It will always be just the two of them. Rosalie is an old soul, stuck in a phase of life that she's long since passed.

Bella clearly doesn't get it. A teenager, madly in love/lust, she thinks that just the two of them, her and Edward, is all that she could ever want. Ironically, Bella gets it both ways (you know, getting pregnant on the first try, having a daughter, and living forever with her lover).

But Rosalie is screwed.

  1. I'm so glad I got you addicted to these books! Who knew you'd find a kindred spirit in Rosalie? You'll get your happy ending. Happy 4th and we'll talk eventually on the phone, right?

  4. Wow, I totally didn't think of that the first time I read the book. Funny how a little time can change your perspective drastically.
