Just took my dog on her morning walk, and I couldn't help but laugh when she peed on her favorite fire hydrant. I mean, how great is that to have a dog who actually pees on fire hydrants?
My post yesterday was pretty bitter, and I was bitter when I wrote it. But as my sweet dog marked the neighborhood, I reflected a little on why I was bitter.
Facebook memes like ultrasound photographs and "We're expecting!" posts are, as Mrs. H. put it in a comment, very "Game of Life." We lose the context, and it comes across as flip. I also worry that these memes unintentionally propagate the myth that pregancy is easy to achieve.
Believe me, there is nothing wrong with achieving pregnancy easily! No one deserves it more than anyone else does (remember, me = jealous). It's just that for 1 in 8 couples, it ain't easy--and that's a big chunk of the population.
I need to wrap this up, hit the shower, and get out of here. I don't know how to wrap it up though, because I don't think there's a good answer. I want people to be able to share happy news with old and new friends. We can't be hypersensitive in every area of life (e.g., "This photo shows Mom and I at the beach. Sorry to anyone who has lost her mother!"). I think that I just need to stay off Facebook for a while.
