Bootylicious

My 24-week appointment went well in all the important ways: heart beat, nothing creepy in my urine, measuring on target. The only glitch was my 10-pound weight gain since the last appointment.

The thing is, I was actually OK with the weight gain before the appointment--a little surprised, but happy that at around 22 weeks, I actually started looking pregnant, with a nice, basketball-like, kickin' tummy. I'd only put on 6 pounds total previously, so I figured, this jump was just my body making up for lost time.

I've been trying just to listen to my body, and I think in the end, that's what I've done. But I was surprised that my doctor kind of scolded me. I mean, he was OK, but I guess I was just hoping for validation that I was doing a good job, that he would say "this is what your body needed." Instead he asked what I've been eating (basically I've just been hungry, finally), and he said that even if I gain a pound a week from here on out, I'll be at the upper end of the recommended weight gain spectrum. It was all kind of a bummer!

Anyway, I've got a fun rant about annoying pregnant women up my sleeve, but that will have to wait for another night. Here's a preview: It's about talking about "nesting," which, I think is the lamest thing anyone can ever talk about. I'm going to go "nest" the dirty dishes in my kitchen now so that I can go to sleep.

  1. I think it's just this time of year! I gained five lbs in two weeks during this week. The nurse had a long talk with megabit lowfat cheese and spreading a thin layer of peanut butter on my apple slices. Whatev. Listen to your body. By the last month you'll stop gaining altogether. Awesome job mothership!
